I think you use 53 as an “implementor” of 171. But Iif a C3PAO was coming in to do a third party assessment I would not let them use anything beyiond the assessment guides. They are not assessing your DFARS compliance, they are not assessing your ITAR compliance.

They are only assessing your confidentiality of CUI using 171 and nothing else.
